Questions & Replies

  1. WHY DO YOU ADD THE HIDDEN VALLEY RANCH DRESSING MIX?

  2. can you can this soup, just love this soup, and would to can this soup is there a way to can this??? thanks

  3. Are people really putting 3 Tablespoons of chili powder in this? It was extremely spicy, so I was wondering it was a typo & it should be 3 teaspoons. Also, you're not supposed to drain anything, correct? Not even the corn? Some people were saying it was thick & mine isn't thick at all, but it says "without draining", so that's what I did. Thanks!

  4. How many calories per cup?

  5. I just joined WW. Does the points value change if you use lean ground beef vs turkey?

Reviews

  1. Really easy and good. I was in the mood for chili and found this recipe. A very nice change to chili. I topped it cheese, tortilla chips and sour cream. Husband said "you're such a good cook."

  2. This was a wonderfully easy and delicious soup. I put it together the night before I served it, so all I had to do was let it cook for an hour. Because of personal preference I rinsed the can of pinto beans. I used frozen corn in place of the canned corn. I used a 10 oz can of Mexican diced tomatoes and a 15 oz can of diced tomatoes to make up for the lost liquid. This had a surprising amount of kick. Thanks for sharing.

  3. This soup is healthy, delicious and filling. You can't go wrong. It's quite hearty. Some people may prefer a bit more liquid, in which case I'd add some tomato or V-8 juice. I used the lean ground turkey. A dallop of fat free sour cream would be nice when served. Thanx for posting!

  4. SO easy! and a very delicious, healthy soup! more like a chili than a soup, really. i was skeptical about the ranch dressing packet but it was just right! made it twice - once with ground chicken, once with ground turkey. a serving size of only a cup doesn't seem like very much to me, so if you're planning this to serve to others you might want to take that into consideration. Also i didn't simmer for anywhere near an hour and if seemed to be fine to me. Everyone loved it - even the boys who insist chili isn't chili without lots of fatty beef! Thank you!!!

Tweaks

  1. I used ground chuck instead of lean mainly because the store was out. Added a teaspoon of minced garlic to the meat and onions, a small can of drained sliced ripe olives and for one of the cans of tomatoes, I used mild Rotel with chilies. So good eating it with some cheese, sour cream and broken corn chips on top. Never had taco soup before and I like it better than chili. My husband tried some at work and kept talking about it so I found this recipe. He said it was way better than what he tried. Certainly will make again and again!

  2. My family loved this! I used black beans instead of kidney beans, and replaced one can of diced tomatoes with can of rotel original added just enough spice. Can't tell you about left overs they ate the entire pot. Will def make again

  3. Delicious! We had three meals out of this. Tweaks: 2 cans of pinto beans, 2 cans of Rotel, chicken broth. No chili powder. Served with cheese, Fritos, avocado and pico de gallo. My husbands new favorite soup and easy!!

  4. I left off the turkey and made it vegan/vegetarian. Browned the onion in vegetable broth. Very good!

  5. Used Fiesta Ranch Mix
