- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
- 1 tablespoon instant minced garlic
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 3⁄4 teaspoon cumin
- 1⁄4 teaspoon red cayenne pepper
- 1⁄3 cup chili powder
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
- 2 (15 ounce) cans red kidney beans, drained
directions
- Brown ground beef.
- Add tomato sauce, tomatoes and water.
- Stir in the onion, garlic and seasonings.
- Add beans and simmer 30- 45 minutes.
- Serve with saltine crackers to crush into the chili.

this is pure comfort food, and is very similat to the way i make mine, so of course we loved it. i used freh chopped onions and 2 jalapenos, seeded and diced. i also used chipolte chili powder, 3 tbsp, nicely spicy. delicious, easy and dinner in an hr and a half start it up and relax, i stirred every 20 minutes or so

I have so many different chili recipes I use (it's one of my all-time favorite meals) and I came across this and decided to try it after seeing the delicious looking photos of it! I made it for husband and I last week and we both LOVED IT!!! I did make a few small changes - but left "basic" recipe as is. I used 1.5 lbs of beef because that's what I had in my fridge (rather than 2 lbs), I pureed my can of diced tomatos in my food chopper as hubby doesn't like chunks of tomato and I added 1/2 green pepper (diced) to the chili because I like to get some veggies somewhere in my meals! I also let it simmer for MUCH longer (almost 4 hours) to "merry" all of the tastes more.... it was SO perfect and will definitely make it again. We added a bit of grated mexican cheese on the top... and had garlic sticks on the side! We had it for leftovers the next day (lunch) and it was even BETTER!! Yum!!!!!

Although I changed a few things (like less chili powder for the kiddies), this was a very good chili. I used one pound of ground beef and one pound of small red kidney beans as well as a little sugar (probably 1 tsp or less). I usually try to sneak in a few healthy extras in my soups, so I added about 1/3 cup rolled oats and one green bell pepper disguised by chopping it into small bits in my blender. The rest of the family never noticed and even my very picky sister gobbled it up--she said it reminded her of Krystal's chili. I guess that's a good thing since she likes Krystal's!

This was good and easy to make. I did make some changes though. I used beef broth instead of water and cut out the cayenne pepper. I also cut the chili powder down to two tablespoons and only used 1/2 teaspoon of salt. I also used black beans and white kidney beans. Ths was good the day I made it but even better the next day.

I think this was the best chili I've ever had. Although I had to alter it a bit for 'the fussy' man (he likes it very thick). I used 1 can of sauce, omitted the water, used about a cup of fresh onions instead of dried, added a cup of green peppers, used fresh minced garlic and threw it all in the crock pot on high for about 5-6 hrs. I thought it was just the perfect amount of heat but I think next time I will cut down just a bit on the cayene & chili powder per 'his' preferences. But, I now have finally found my chili recipe and will look no further!! Thanks PanNan!

This is a very simple chili to prepare. I made a few changes for personal preference but overall left the basic recipe alone. I used beef broth instead of water, left out the cumin and added half the salt and used 4 large frozen tomatoes in my freezer. I made this the day before I needed it so the flavours would have a chance to blend together. Thanks for such a tasty recipe.
