PART OF Summer Grilling

How to Make the Ultimate Shrimp Boil

Nothing is quite like a brown paper-lined table piled high with shellfish, sausage, corn and 'taters. The rising steam, that Maryland spice blend, the anticipation of the moment when it all gets dumped from the pot... Make it a new summer tradition in your house.

Ultimate Old Bay Shrimp Boil

“This Old Bay Shrimp Boil is the ultimate summer dish. It might seem a bit daunting, but it couldn't be easier. It comes together in no time and cooks in just 30 minutes. Serve it in the center of a paper lined table and have a fun and interactive dinner that tastes even better than it looks!”

Gather Your Ingredients

Round up the essentials for a good shrimp boil. Things you'll need? Potatoes, onions, garlic, smoked sausage, fresh corn, shell-on shrimp and, of course, Old Bay Seasoning for maximal beachside flavor.

Grab a Pot

Fill a large stock pot (12-quart or larger) with a gallon of water (16 cups).

Time for Flavor

To the water, add Old Bay Seasoning, a can of beer (if using it) and salt, then bring it to a boil.

Add the Aromatics

Stir in sliced onions and whole garlic cloves.

Boil with Potatoes

Add halved potatoes and bring to a boil. Cook for 8 minutes.

Sausage Central

Stir in sliced smoked sausage and boil for another 5 minutes.

Lend Your Ears

Add the corn and boil for 7 minutes, making sure to stir gently and combine ingredients so that they cook evenly.

Stir In Some Shrimp

Add the shrimp and boil until they're pink and just cooked, about 4 minutes. To avoid a rubbery texture, be careful not to overcook them.

Strain & Drain

Carefully drain the liquid and discard.

Make It Nice

Dump the shrimp boil out onto either a very large platter or a baking sheet. Alternatively—for an photo-friendly vibe—dump the boil directly onto a table that's been lined with brown butcher paper or newspaper.

Season & Share

Sprinkle with more Old Bay Seasoning, garnish with lemon wedges and enjoy!
