"This is the softest white bread I have ever baked. It was sent to me via email and I cannot remember who sent it. This is the only recipe I use for white bread."

Questions & Replies

  1. Hi my name is Shema and I am new to the bread maker seen. I have always made bread the "old fashioned" way. I am also new to this elevation and I have found in the past this does affect your baking. My question for you is; "what is the difference between bread flour and regular flour". My machine's recipe calls for bread flour. I hated it. The recipe also does not put the sugar with the water and yeast there for it doesn't rise properly. We end up with a very dense loaf to feed the garbage.

  2. I just bought my breadmaker (Oster) & so far my loaves are too dense. One thing I noticed is the recipes say liquid at room temp added 1st with yeast added last on top of the flour. Anyone have any suggestions? Thx

  3. Is there a way you can update the recipe to say warm water versus hot water? when I read a lot of the below questions and responses I’ve seen that it says to not use hot water, but if somebody doesn’t read the tweaks and the questions they’re not going know that!

  4. If I want to make a 2 pound bread what do I change the yield to?

  5. If I make this in a bread maker what size loaf does it make? 1lb, 1 1/2 or 2lb ?

Reviews

  1. I reviewed this before, but wanted to add that I have been putting a few tsp of vital wheat gluten and it makes the bread amazing! It's very fluffy, full and it keeps the shape nicely. And with the VWG, you can substitute the white flour with whole wheat flower and it comes out as soft and tender as white flour!

  2. Conversion to 2 lb loaf. Exquisite. 1 -1/3 Cup Hot Water 2-2/3 tsp Yeast 4 TBL Sugar 1/3 Cup Oil 1-1/3 tsp Salt 4 Cups Flour Yummy.

  3. I made this in my bread machine and it was wonderful! I did it at the 1.5-lb capacity and had used a whole 2-oz packet of active dry yeast and canola oil. (The first attempt I didn't add enough salt and used sunflower oil, and the loaf sank.) But like with all bread machine recipes I make, I did the yeast-foam stage first before turning the machine on-- I put the yeast in, then the sugar, then the water into the machine's bowl and let it stand for 15 minutes. Then blended the other ingredients in and did a white bread cycle that baked in the machine, came out perfect. A definite keeper I'll make again.

  4. Oh my goodness! I made this bread in my bread machine this afternoon and it was the lightest and softest bread I have ever made. I used 1/4 cup melted butter instead of the vegetable oil. I made it per the instructions for my bread maker which are: 1) liquid ingredients in the bottom of the pan; 2) dry ingredients on top; 3) Don't let yeast touch liquid-make a hole in the flour with your finger, pour in the yeast and cover it. Came out absolutely perfect. Rose like it was supposed to. Top medium golden color and nice and rounded. The crust was slightly crunchy but flaked like a butter roll. My husband just went on and on about how he doesn't think he's ever eaten such soft, such delicious bread. I've printed the recipe and taped in the inside door of the cabinet where the bread maker sits. I don't think I'll ever use another recipe for bread maker white bread other than this one. 5 STARS.

  5. This is definitely the best bread I've made. I also let the yeast and sugar sit in the warm water for about 15 mins before continuing. It is so soft and yummy. It was almost cloud-like. Just had a piece of the heel tonight. Gonna see how it tastes with left over corned beef tomorrow. Maybe I'll sneak into the kitchen and have another with some butter and jam right now! This is totally our "go to" sandwich bread now. Even my picky two year old liked it! Gonna take some to the in-laws for Wed family dinner. They'll go nuts!

Tweaks

  1. Used melted butter in place of oil. Followed machine instructions... liquids first, dry ingredients second, yeast last. Turned out perfectly.

  2. Cinnamon monkey bread: Follow recipe ingredients, prepare on Dough setting. Cut dough into small dough balls (roughly 1 inch). Arrange in the ABM with your filling between the layers and even spread throughout. Use bake setting on ABM, then enjoy a yummy monkey bread ^_^ 1/4 cup butter, melted, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/3 cup nuts, lightly toasted, chopped (optional)
