Chewy Drop Sugar Cookies

"There is nothing I like better than to walking into a room where there are fresh cookies baking. The sweet aroma filling the room...mmmm makes my mouth water. I haven't made this one yet but I found it tucked away in an old cook book."

  1. Very good cookies! I did think there was too much salt in them though, so I would reduce the salt down to 1/2 tsp. or maybe even a bit less. Also, I didn't use the Crisco, but all butter. YUMMY!

  2. This is a great Recipe! I added a teaspoon of almond extract. Adding food coloring is a good touch to make them more festive. I used red for a batch and green for another.

  3. I love this recipe, the only thing I change was the amount of salt used (1/4 of a teaspoon instead of 3/4) I also used butter with no salt and they turned out great! I split the batter in half and added some cocoa to make chocolate sugar cookies as well. My kids loved this cookies and we spend about 2 hours decorating them!

  4. Really tasty! However, mine did not come out like the others; they looked more like halved muffins and were more cake-like than flat, chewy, and crispy cookies. Regardless, we still enjoyed them with our tea :]

  5. completely wonderful. i love sugar cookies but loathe the business of rolling them out, etc., etc. these taste just as good, are chewy and perfectly delicious.

Tweaks

  1. This is just the recipe my grandmother used 50 years ago. She used lemon flavoring instead of vanilla.

  2. I replaced the crisco with butter, using 1 cup of butter in all, and these turned out awesome: the best sugar cookies I've ever made without my mom's help. I put the dough I didn't use the first night in the fridge and made more cookies the next night, which turned out even better than the first, so although this dough can be made immediately, it also works well as a refrigerator dough. Great recipe!
