Classic BLT Sandwich

ingredients
- 1⁄2 lb bacon (approx. 12 slices)
- 8 slices white bread
- 8 leaves iceberg lettuce, fresh and full
- 8 slices of ripened tomatoes
- 8 tablespoons Hellmann's mayonnaise
directions
- Cook bacon until crispy, then drain on paper towels.
- Toast the 8 slices of bread.
- Spread 1 tablespoon mayo on each slice of toasted bread. (More or less, to taste).
- Add 1 slice of lettuce to 4 pieces of mayo-spreaded toast.
- Add 2 slices of tomato on top of lettuce.
- Arrange 3 slices of bacon evenly on top of tomato. (Break bacon slices in half to fit, if needed.).
- Add 1 slice of lettuce on top of bacon.
- Put the remaining 4 pieces of mayo-spreaded toast on top to finish the sandwiches.
- Enjoy!
- NOTE: I also like to butter the toast slices before adding the mayo -- higher in fat, but tastier, in my opinion!

It does not get any better than a BLT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used recipe#208501 recipe and it was totally easy to put this together with no mess!!! I definitely love that you listed Hellmann's mayonnaise as the mayo to use because if you're gonna do it with bacon, do it right and don't use nasty Miracle Whip or some other thing besides real mayonnaise!!! Yep this was totally great. I made these as mini sandwiches for a gathering of ladies they all kept going back for more. I followed another reviewers advice and used yellow mustard on one slice. One other tip from me: After slicing the tomatoes, I laid the slices on a stack of paper towels, sprinkled just a little salt on top. Allowed them to sit for a few minutes while I worked on the other parts of the sandwich. Then right before assembly, piled a few other paper towels and a plate on top of the slices and inverted them. This reduced some of the wetness of the tomato and removed most of the bitter seeds. They were awesome. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

I love the classic BLT. I sometimes if I have leftover guacamole and want to use it up the next day, I make a BLT and add some guacamole and sprouts in place of the lettuce. It's really delicious, and I sometimes when using up guacamole, use up any homemade salsa in place of mayo. It's delicious as well on the sandwich. I use it on Club sandwiches as well like that. Gives the sandwich a new flair.

I love music, especially 70's music, cats, incense & lavalights, candles, and I love to play guitar. I've been called an old "hippie chick," and I don't mind that label in the least. I also love to try other people's recipes and find ones that remind me of my Mother, and those precious memories that I had growing up in a household with such a wonderfully comforting cook...I work full-time in a real estate office as an office administrator.
I came to this site looking for recipes that were tried and true. I stayed at this site because I found people who were kind, loving, caring and shared the same interest that I do --- food and cooking. I've saved a lifetime of recipes and learned so much about cooking and ingredients that I actually feel proud of my cooking. I bet my Mom looks down on me with pride every time I cook a new recipe from RecipeZaar, and I bet my Dad cracks up every time he sees me photographing what I've cooked! My daughters have actually gotten into the act, too, and are quite versed in searching for recipes and answers here on Zaar. Makes me proud to be their Mom.
RecipeZaar isn't just a "website." It's a lifestyle. And some of the friends I've made here are LIFELONG friends to me --- and in my estimation, those types of people are a rare thing to find in this world. :)
